"Fields of Grace", "Frequency", "The Seafarer", and "Squirrels" performed by Flute Frequencies

I'd like to introduce you to Flute Frequencies, an ensemble of wonderful musicians in the Huntsville, Alabama area that have become dear friends of mine. Flute Frequencies is a part of the Prevailing Winds Flute Ensemble, a community flute choir with over 30 members. Members of Flute Frequencies include Elaine Bevel, Carolyn Kibbe, Jennifer Lindsay, Rachel Reinhardt, Erin Robertson, and Betty Stone. However, they often perform with guests, such as Nancy Schroeder on contrabass flute and pianist Eric Wilson, both pictured here.

Flute Frequencies has performed just about all of my music, while also bringing in special guests like Rama Kumaran, who has done the premiere recordings of my flute music. This year, when they approached the NFA about doing a full concert of only my pieces at the August 2025 NFA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, it turned into this wonderful concert with Rama, and just like me, Rama was genuinely touched by their enthusiasm and friendship. After that NFA performance, they all stayed close and continue to perform together.

A fun little story: when they first started playing my music, they called themselves The Beeftinkers, which honestly made me feel so honored. And at the NFA Convention, they even performed as Rama and the Beeftinkers! They made shirts for the concert, too!

And now, their new name is inspired by one of my flute pieces, Frequency, they’ve become Flute Frequencies! I’m still just as honored as ever.

The selection that they performed at the 2025 NFA Convention’s Flute Ensemble Festival in Atlanta, as a part of their “Beeftink Mini-fest” included The Seafarer; Aye, Aye, Rascal!; Celtic Forest; Frequency; Birds; Twilight; and Squirrels. It is because of them I have felt inspired to compose more ensemble pieces!

And in 2024, they hosted an entire "Beeftink Love Fest"!

I love what Flute Frequencies has done with Fields of Grace. They took a piece I originally wrote for a single player and distributed the melody to their whole ensemble. By passing the melody from player to player, their performance represents their friendship.
